URBAN FURNITURE CONTEST
National Public Ideas Contest for Urban Furniture of the City of São Paulo

Studio Papaya, together with our partners Ibirá Arquitetura, Enzo Benati, Fernanda Correia da Selva, Nathalie Prado, elaborated a proposal for the National Public Ideas Contest for Elements of Urban Furniture of the City of São Paulo. Our study was based on the city's urbanscape icons:
"From the dense landscape of São Paulo - intrinsically established in the collective consciousness of its inhabitants/visitors - that dictates the accelerated pace and completes the intense sense of urbanity of space, stand out strong visual symbols that arouse emotions through their iconic character, visible references of the culture and history of the city of São Paulo. The complexity of this scenario comprehends an accumulation of temporalities, represented through the various expressions of architectural character, urban plurality. (...) Thus, we experiment a re-reading of the spatial observation from the mapping of the various symbols and their various meanings and plastic potentialities: MASP, Sesc Pompéia, Ibirapuera Auditorium, Hotel Unique, Patriarca Square Portico, Galeria do Rock Shopping Center, Copan Building and Ponte Estaiada Bridge, interpreted as a new expression and readaptation of use and scale applied in the public space as a new form of social interaction."
