MIXED USE CENTER SOL NASCENTE

Architecture Competition

Proposal for the public contest promoted by CODHAB (DF Housing Development Company).

The project started from the premise that architecture can be conceived as a space for events, marked by the tight relationship between form and function. Based on this premise, a place for events in architecture and the possibility of a conquered autonomy is sought. This autonomy is based on the use of this space by its inhabitants, experiencing and conquering it. Thus, the quality of the space viewed as an events catalyzer creates a relationship of interdependence between them. The project seeks to increase the practical use of cultural goods and services for the population of Sol Nascente and its surroundings.

In order to create a center that houses the 4000m² of cultural and commercial program in an integrated way, that is responsive to the surroundings, the project concept is based on fluidity. The access and circulation connect all the different parts of the building, inviting people in. Also, they generate transition spaces that can also have their own specific use. For this, two main plateaus were established taking advantage of the natural terrain. The first focuses on the flow of circulation of the avenues and the existing urban mobility equipment, invites and brings visibility to the commercial area, services and exhibitions. The second focuses on the neighborhood, with smaller flow of people and vehicles, consists of a library, a media center, workshops and mixed use rooms. The auditorium, centralized in the site and connected to the main covered patio, sits on the ground, taking advantage of the natural declivity to create the needed inclination for the seats of the audience.

The central courtyard becomes an integrating element inside the project, as well as a connecting element of the project with its surroundings. It also creates a microclimate of vegetation / garden, propitious for the savannah tropical climate, becoming a breath a fresh air in the warmer seasons.
